Role details
Own the technical direction of a production LLM product, 80% hands-on coding, one direct report to start.
You'll lead the engineering of Bidlevel, a product sitting inside a well-funded construction tech company. That means setting the architecture, writing production code every week, and making the calls that shape how the product gets built. You'll start with one direct report and grow the team by one or two engineers over time.
The company is fully remote across Australia and has been since before it was fashionable. They've built real processes around it, so you're not piecing together async culture from scratch. The stack is Typescript for production workloads, Python for prototyping in Hex, with Langchain and LangGraph deployed on ECS and Lambda. Langsmith handles evals and experiments. It's a modern, well-considered setup for the problem they're solving.
The leadership load is deliberately light. Twenty percent of your week is people work, the rest is technical. They want someone who keeps building, not someone who drifts into meetings. Founders are technical and expect clear reasoning on trade-offs, so you'll need to explain your decisions well. The culture is flat and transparent, including on finances and company strategy. You get 25 days of annual leave, a birthday day off, an extra day before Christmas, and a computer equipment allowance.
What You'll Do
- Set the architecture, engineering standards and technical roadmap for Bidlevel alongside the founders.
- Design and ship production-grade LLM applications using Langchain and LangGraph, including evals, orchestration and monitoring.
- Own reliability in production across ECS and Lambda, keeping what ships fast, stable and cost-effective.
- Lead one direct report through regular 1:1s and clear feedback, with scope to grow the team by one or two engineers.
What You'll Need
- Senior software engineering background with time as a tech lead, staff engineer or technical owner of a product or platform.
- Production experience with LLM applications using Langchain, LangGraph or similar, including evaluation framework design.
- Strong Typescript skills for production workloads, with solid AWS experience across ECS and Lambda.
About the Company
They build procurement software for the construction industry, supporting over $38 billion in construction value across 1,500 active projects. Recently valued at over $100 million after a $15 million raise, they operate across Australia, the UK and the Middle East.
