Senior Java Developer

Your code underpins every property transaction, title registration, and land boundary record in New South Wales.

Role details

Your code underpins every property transaction, title registration, and land boundary record in New South Wales.

You'll join the EPMO Delivery team, building and maintaining the web-based systems that sit behind billions of dollars of NSW property activity each year. Day to day that means designing and developing REST and SOAP APIs, improving automated test coverage, supporting application releases, and contributing to a transformation portfolio that's progressively moving services online.

The work is based in Sydney's CBD. You're joining an organisation that operates critical state infrastructure, so there's real weight to what gets shipped. The stack runs on Java with Spring frameworks, Maven builds, Git-based version control, and AWS cloud. You'll work across both agile and waterfall delivery depending on the project, which suits someone who can read the room and adjust.

There are legacy systems in the mix. That's the honest reality of a registry that's been operating for decades. What you get in return is meaningful work on a long-running transformation programme, a clear reporting line to the ICT Portfolio Director, and the kind of stability that comes with a well-funded, purpose-driven organisation. The team values clean code, proper documentation, and peer review done properly, not as a checkbox.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop and maintain multiple API interfaces using REST and SOAP, keeping integrations clean and well-documented.
  • Build and improve automated tests, conduct code peer reviews, and carry out system testing against defined test strategies.
  • Contribute technical expertise during requirements analysis and design walkthroughs, helping shape solution quality upstream.
  • Provide application support and problem resolution, coordinating with developers and stakeholders to minimise service disruption.

What You'll Need

  • Strong Java development skills with hands-on Spring Framework experience and solid API design knowledge.
  • AWS or equivalent cloud experience, DevOps exposure, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and build tools like Maven.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and microservices or SOA-based integration patterns.
  • Degree in a relevant field or equivalent industry experience and certifications.

About the Company

They are an semi privatised Government Agency, maintaining legal records of land ownership and boundaries across the state. It's a high-stakes environment underpinning billions of dollars of property activity annually, and the team is progressively modernising how those services are delivered.
