Scrum Master

Scrum Master for an established data delivery squad inside a major financial services organisation, Sydney CBD.

You'll step into a backfill role within a running data project, supporting a squad of data engineers and testing specialists. Day to day, that means running ceremonies, keeping the backlog refined, coordinating a monthly release cycle and managing a matrix of project and functional stakeholders who don't always agree.

The role is hybrid, three days a week in the George Street CBD office, with Thursday as the fixed common day and flexibility around the other two. The previous Scrum Master is still in the organisation and will hand over directly, so you're not walking into a blank slate. There's also an experienced Scrum Master running a parallel squad who you'll work alongside.

This is a well-supported landing. You'll have context, colleagues and an existing delivery rhythm from day one. The matrix structure does mean you'll be balancing competing expectations across project and functional lines, so if you've done that before and know how to keep things moving without formal authority, you'll feel at home quickly. Jira and Confluence are the tools in play.

What You'll Do

• Facilitate sprint planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement, reviews and retrospectives for a data engineering and testing squad.
• Coordinate monthly release preparation, tracking readiness gaps, dependencies and outstanding decisions across engineering and testing.
• Manage delivery visibility and reporting, using retrospective feedback to improve flow and predictability over time.
• Work across project and functional stakeholder groups in a matrix structure, keeping priorities, risks and decisions visible and agreed.

What You'll Need

• Hands-on Scrum Master experience with at least one data project under your belt, ideally more.
• Practical knowledge of Scrum, backlog refinement and sprint delivery in a technical team environment, including data engineering or data testing.
• Experience in a matrix organisation managing multiple stakeholder groups with competing priorities.
• Sydney-based and available to work from the CBD three days per week including Thursday. CSM, PSM or equivalent certification is a plus.
