GPU Systems Engineer/Data Centre Technician

Rack, cable, and commission large-scale GPU clusters at the heart of Australia's sovereign AI infrastructure build, based in Melbourne's Docklands.

Role details

Rack, cable, and commission large-scale GPU clusters at the heart of Australia's sovereign AI infrastructure build, based in Melbourne's Docklands.

You'll be hands-on at the hardware layer of one of the most technically ambitious data centre builds in the country. That means deploying and maintaining GPU servers, compute nodes, and storage systems, supporting high-density cabling and fibre installations, and keeping mission-critical infrastructure running as the team scales toward 24/7 operations.

You'll split your time between the Docklands data centre and CBD offices, with flexibility built in. The work itself is close to the metal: GPU architectures, liquid cooling systems, NVMe and SAN storage, and large-scale compute fabrics. You'll use IPMI, iDRAC, and iLO for out-of-band management and work directly with vendor support teams on hardware incidents and RMA processes. As the team grows, you'll also pick up exposure to infrastructure-as-code practices for provisioning and configuration.

This is a foundational hire. You'll be part of a small team building something genuinely new in the Australian market, not maintaining someone else's legacy environment. The culture is collaborative and the technical exposure is real. If GPU infrastructure and sovereign AI compute are where you want to build your career, the timing here is good.

What You'll Do

  • Deploy, rack, cable, and maintain GPU servers, compute nodes, and storage systems across the Docklands data centre facility.
  • Support new environment build-outs including physical installation, high-density fibre cabling, and commissioning of GPU clusters.
  • Perform hardware troubleshooting, firmware upgrades, and lifecycle management across bare-metal and GPU infrastructure.
  • Provide Level 2 infrastructure support and contribute to documentation, runbooks, and on-call processes as the team moves to 24/7 operations.

What You'll Need

  • Hands-on data centre experience: racking, cabling, and troubleshooting in high-density compute environments, ideally from a hyperscaler or major data centre operator.
  • Linux systems administration skills and server configuration experience, including IPMI, iDRAC, or iLO out-of-band management.
  • Familiarity with storage systems (NVMe, SAN, NAS) and network/fabric deployment including switch installation and fibre optic diagnostics.
  • Experience with GPU or high-performance compute hardware is a strong advantage.

About the Company

They're building Australia's sovereign AI infrastructure, giving organisations onshore control over their data and compute. Through partnerships with major technology providers and a purpose-built data centre presence in Melbourne, they're constructing the physical foundation for national-scale AI workloads.
